PENANG 22 September - The Penang government has submitted a complaint to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) against a blogger over a post alleging that the money for the senior citizens appreciation programme was derived from gambling.
Ng Wei Aik, the political secretary to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, submitted the letter at the MCMC's Northern Branch office in Butterworth at 11.00am today.

In his complaint, Ng (right) targeted two articles on the blog pisau.net - Gempar! Wang Ehsan 100, Warga Mas Makan Duit Judi? and Kerajaan Negeri Tak Jawap, Boleh Percayakah Guan Eng? - posted on Sept 17 and 19 respectively.
Ng, who is also Komtar assemblyperson, said that the allegations in the two articles were baseless and appeared to be another slanderous attempt against the state government.
He added that accusations that the state utilised money from gambling to award senior citizens over 60 with RM100 each and families of the deceased with RM1,000 were totally false.
"The Penang government was the first state to have opposed the legalisation of sports betting," said Ng, showing excerpts of the postings on the blog, which carries a "boycott Malaysiakini, anti-Islam" logo.
"How can we be accused of using the money from gambling to support our programmes?" he queried.
"The truth is, the money comes from the state government's savings because we do not swindle the rakyat's money," he told reporters.
Ng, who is state secretary for DAP Socialist Youth, said the state is lodging the complaint so that the allegations by the blogger can be investigated and the appropriate action be taken against him.
MCMC officer Mohd Rashdi Hasan received the report from Ng, but declined to comment on the matter.
The Penang government has been plagued by a series of allegations ranging from complaints that Lim's name was used in Friday sermons to replace the King's to doctored photos of him slaughtering a cow for the Muslim community distributed over the Internet.
Lim has vehemently denied the accusations levelled against him in the issue of Friday sermons while a police report had been lodged over the fake photo.
