Two companies charged with Jaya Supermarket collapse

PETALING JAYA 22 September - Two construction companies were charged separately in Sessions Court yesterday for offence failing to meet safety standards that caused the structure of Jaya Supermarket to collapse, killling seven workers.


The structure collapsed before demolition works could start.

Indonesia Bans Maids From Leaving For Malaysia, Kuwait, Jordan

JAKARTA 22 September: Prospective maids from Indonesia are banned from leaving for Malaysia, Kuwait and Jordan until the Indonesian goverment can assure their safety.

Indonesia's Labour and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar announced on Tuesday that the move was taken in response to a case where an Indonesian maid was allegedly abused by her employer in Penang on Sept 13.

Najib to lead Maaysian delegation to UN General Assembly

KUALA LUMPUR 22 September: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 65th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York for six days from Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry said Najib would be accompanied by wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman as well as officials of the Foreign Ministry and Prime Minister's Department.

KK City Folk Fear High Rise Project Will Dwarf Historic Clock Tower

KOTA KINABALU 22 September: A proposed 16-storey hotel and shopping complex project that some city folk here fear will dwarf a historical clock tower will have to go back to the drawing board, said Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman.

He has directed the state Local Government and Housing Ministry to review the unpopular project.
"The Central Planning Board will reassess this project," he said after opening a Public-Private Partnership and Facilitation Fund Seminar here yesterday..

Undersea tunnel between Johor and S’pore seen as an option

PUTRAJAYA 22 September - An undersea tunnel between Malaysia and Singapore was an option being considered by both countries, according to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.

He said the tunnel was being considered to realise the rapid transit system (RTS) between Johor Baru and Woodlands in Singapore as agreed upon by the two countries at their meeting in May.

Animal Activist Cry Foul at Alleged Murder Site

KUALA LANGAT 22 September -  The Selangor Wildlife Department has raided the farm where cosmetics millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya and three others were allegedly murdered and rescued 16 birds yesterday.

Six officers were seen entering the farm at noon under the watchful eye of police personnel stationed nearby.

The team, led by an officer known only as Jalal, found 16 birds of several unprotected species at the farm.

SHAH ALAM 22 September - The Human Rights Party Malaysia (HRP) claims that Umno's social engineering has denied Indian youths the right to education, jobs, business mobility, loans and contract opportunities that has resulted in many of them turning to gangsterism and violent crime.

Sime Darby finds foul play in energy projects

SHAH ALAM 22 September - Sime Darby Bhd says their forensic and legal consultants have found "prima facie" evidence that there may have been foul play in several of the government-linked conglomerate's projects in the energy sector.

Sime Darby in a statement to Bursa Malaysia said their board of directors has decided to initiate legal proceedings and lodge reports with the relevant authorities.

Penang Govt Filed Complaint To MCMC Against Blogger

PENANG 22 September - The Penang government has submitted a complaint to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) against a blogger over a post alleging that the money for the senior citizens appreciation programme was derived from gambling.

Ng Wei Aik, the political secretary to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, submitted the letter at the MCMC's Northern Branch office in Butterworth at 11.00am today.

Sunshine Fleet Shown Exit Door from Shah Alam Hospital Project

SHAH ALAM 22 september - The Public Works Department (PWD) has terminated the services of Sunshine Fleet Sdn Bhd as the main contractor for the troubled and much delayed Shah Alam Hospital project.

This is according to a termination letter dated Sept 3 and signed by PWD director-general Judin Abdul Karim.

In the letter, PWD invoked Clause 54 of the contract agreement to fire Sunshine Fleet for failing to deliver the project on time.

Tsu Koon Defends Nazir's Malaysian First

NONESHAH ALAM 22 September - Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Koh Tsu Koon came today to the defence of fellow cabinet member Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz against insinuations the latter was failing to fulfill his role as a Malay leader if he embraced a 'Malaysian' identity.

Being Malaysian would not make citizens of the country any less Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, Iban or other ethnic identity, said the Gerakan president.

To regard oneself as Malaysian is consistent with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's 1Malaysia spirit, which puts inclusiveness and social justice above race and religion.

Poll Shows PKR Members Favors Azmin For 2nd Top

From the 78 divisions of which results were available, 43 have nominated Azmin for the post, far ahead of his nearest competitor, supreme council member Zaid Ibrahim.

Zaid has received 21 nominations, while vice-president Mustaffa Kamil Ayub comes in third with 10 nominations.
