Lim, think it over - Gerakan

SHAH ALAM 5 October - Gerakan's leadership have unanimously rejected the resignation of its advisor Dr Lim Keng Yaik and wants him to reconsider the decision.

The decision was arrived after the central working committee convened tonight to discuss Lim's shock announcement that he was quitting over disappointment with president Koh Tsu Koon's leadership.

"After much deliberation, for the interest and unity of the party, the CWC did not accept the resignation letter and we urge him to reconsider," Koh told reporters after chairing the meeting at the Gerakan headquarters in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

Koh also refused to respond to Lim's "ostrich" jab.

"I don't want to make any other comment," said Koh, promptly leaving the venue after taking three questions.

Among top leaders present at the meeting includes deputy president Chang Ko Youn, vice-president Mah Siew Kiong, secretary-general Teng Chang Yeow, Wanita chief Tan Lian Hoe and Youth chief Lim Si Pin.

Keng Yaik's nonchalance
Koh is now under mounting pressure to salvage his credibility after Lim's stinging attack against him leadership yesterday.

Among others, Lim said that Koh tend to avoid controversy and thus allowing problems within the party to fester, notably the ongoing crisis in Penang in which an attempt is being made to oust state chief Teng Hock Nam.

Lim said that Koh's behaviour was akin to the proverbial ostrich which buries its head in the ground.

In a statement this afternoon, Koh said that Lim's reaction was most likely due to a misunderstanding over the handling of the Penang situation.

When contacted this afternoon, Lim was nonchalant to the idea of listening to Koh, should the latter attempt to explain the said misunderstanding
