Rosnah: Adnan Unfair To Accuse Puteri Umno Only Wants Positions

SHAH ALAM 8 October - Puteri Umno is furious with party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor's statement that Puteri and Pemuda members are self-serving and only interested in positions.

Puteri Umno chief Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said she was saddened by Adnan's statement and would raise the movement's indignation over the senior leader's criticism at the next supreme council meeting.

She said it was unfair of Tengku Adnan to make such a sweeping statement against Youth and Puteri members who were doing all they could for the party and government.

"Many at the grassroots work hard day and night, to help the party and government in carrying out political activities, among others. Pemuda (Youth) has 700,000 members while Puteri has 340,000.

"It's not possible that all who chose Umno and BN to lead them are crazy for posts," Rosnah said during a Hari Raya open house jointly hosted by Umno's Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Malay daily Berita Harian today ran an article that Tengku Adnan was saddened by the Youth and Puteri movements, whose members he described as "lethargic" and only excited over posts and personal gain.

He said the two wings did not understand the party struggles as "they did not come from the bottom" and perceived their posts as tickets to high government positions.

Rosnah, who is also deputy health minister, said Tengku Adnan's statement would greatly demoralise the grassroots of both wings.

khairy jamaluddin"I know of Puteri leaders who have lost their government posts because of the (party) struggle, and even left their families for long periods," she said.

Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin (left) took a more diplomatic stance on the matter, saying there was no reason to complain over Tengku Adnan's statement.
"We accept any feedback, but be specific. Don't make a general statement because it does not apply to everybody.

"(There is) nothing (for Tengku Adnan) to apologise for... he said something and I gave him more than my two sen worth.

"We are not about to wage a war against each other. What's the point? We are talking within the family, and I'm not going to throw a chair, like in Keadilan," Khairy said.
