Minister Has Right To Decide Matters Under His Ministry

SHAH ALAM 5 October - The transport minister can overrule any decision taken by the Port Klang Authority (PKA) board of directors on whether or not to take legal action against PKA's former directors for breach of fiduciary duty in the PKFZ scandal.

"Read the Act. I wouldn't say overrule (but) it is his right as the minister to decide on matters under his ministry. But he has never interfered before,” said board chairperson Lee Hwa Beng today, when asked if the minister could intervene.

Khalid to contest for PKR 'high position'

SHAH ALAM 5 October - Former PKR secretary-general Khalid Ibrahim has announced that he will contest for a "high position" in the upcoming party polls but refused to reveal any specifics.

"As one of the party leaders and the Menteri Besar of a Pakatan Rakyat Government, I see the need to make a decision that is brave, bold and wise, to ensure party unity is intact. I hereby offer myself to contest for a position within the party's top leadership," he said.

Khalid (left) added that he will only reveal the position that he is gunning for on Oct 10, after PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim returns from overseas.

Lim, think it over - Gerakan

SHAH ALAM 5 October - Gerakan's leadership have unanimously rejected the resignation of its advisor Dr Lim Keng Yaik and wants him to reconsider the decision.

The decision was arrived after the central working committee convened tonight to discuss Lim's shock announcement that he was quitting over disappointment with president Koh Tsu Koon's leadership.

"After much deliberation, for the interest and unity of the party, the CWC did not accept the resignation letter and we urge him to reconsider," Koh told reporters after chairing the meeting at the Gerakan headquarters in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
